Brevo is a customer communication platform: email, SMS and WhatsApp marketing, automation, transactional messages and a CRM. It was founded in 2012 by Armand Thiberge as Sendinblue, is headquartered in Paris, and became Brevo in May 2023.
It serves more than 600,000 customers in over 180 countries. In December 2025 it closed a €500 million funding round that made it a unicorn.
The platforms
The Marketing Platform covers campaigns and automation across email, SMS and WhatsApp, with plans from Free to Enterprise. Alongside it sit a Sales Platform CRM, Conversations for live chat and phone, the Brevo Data Platform for unifying customer data, and Loyalty for reward programs.
Transactional messages, like order confirmations and password resets, go out through the same platform by API or SMTP.
Data in the EU
Brevo keeps its servers in the EU and is ISO 27001 certified. Its AI Lab, launched in 2025, runs on those same EU servers. Aura is the name of its AI agents, managed from a control center added in October 2025.
Which store events reach Brevo
Ready-made integrations connect Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and PrestaShop, so orders and products can drive abandoned cart emails and post-purchase flows.
Shopify stores now connect through the Brevo PushOwl app, which copies existing and new customers, products, collections and orders from Shopify into Brevo. Every Shopify customer goes into one Brevo list, and the first full sync makes Shopify the source of truth, so it can overwrite contact details Brevo already held. Product views, abandoned carts, started checkouts and new orders arrive as events an automation can start from.
The WooCommerce plugin creates three events on its own: cart_updated, cart_deleted and order_completed. Anything else, such as a refund or a failed payment, has to be added as a custom event, on the website or through the API.
Keeping consent in step with Shopify
Each Shopify customer comes across with their email and SMS subscription status, and Brevo only emails customers whose email marketing is switched on in Shopify. Email status travels both ways: someone who unsubscribes from a Brevo campaign is also unsubscribed from email marketing in Shopify.
WooCommerce works differently. The plugin adds an opt-in checkbox at checkout, and by default only shoppers who tick it arrive as subscribed. An “Import contacts as subscribed” switch marks every contact, guest checkouts included, as subscribed, and Brevo’s own advice is to use it only where each contact has given clear, verifiable consent. Data moves from WooCommerce to Brevo and not back, and a contact deleted or blocklisted in WordPress stays as it was in Brevo.
Brevo alongside HubSpot and Salesforce
Two HubSpot connections exist, and they move different things. Brevo’s own HubSpot integration brings contacts, companies and deals into Brevo at an interval you choose, and posts campaign opens and clicks back to each contact’s HubSpot timeline. It imports static HubSpot lists only, and every synced contact is subscribed to Brevo emails. Brevo accepts only contacts who opted in within the last two years.
HubSpot’s own Brevo data sync runs both ways in real time. Without a HubSpot Data Hub subscription it carries just the email address and mobile number, and email opens and clicks stay out of it. For Salesforce, the Brevo app syncs leads and contacts in either direction, while opportunities stay in Salesforce, with only their name and ID copied onto the person.
Brevo’s REST API
Brevo’s REST API covers contacts, lists and attributes, campaigns, transactional email and SMS, custom events, ecommerce orders and products, the CRM and loyalty. Requests use an API key or OAuth 2.0, and official libraries cover Node.js, PHP, Python, Java, C#, Go and Ruby.
Rate limits rise with the plan; transactional email starts at 1,000 requests a second. A sandbox header lets an integration send test requests without any email going out.
Brevo webhooks
Transactional webhooks report every step of a message, from delivered and opened to bounced and unsubscribed, and marketing webhooks do the same for campaigns and contact changes. Inbound parsing turns replies into data another system can use.
Since May 2026, API and SMTP keys can carry expiry dates. Brevo also has an MCP server, a Claude connector and a ChatGPT plugin for working with an account through AI.
Messages that know the customer
Brevo’s automations work best when they hear about everything that happens to a customer, and the store plugins send only part of it. Refunds, deliveries and support tickets can all reach Brevo as custom events, so a post-purchase flow can wait for the parcel to arrive, or skip a customer with an open complaint.
Brevo often replaces two or three separate tools, so a review of the current stack is a useful first step. Aura’s agents are only as good as the customer data behind them, which is where AI readiness starts, and campaign lists still exported by hand add up in hours.
